Liability and Sale of Alcohol to a Minor

In California, if someone sells alcohol to a minor who presents a fake ID, and the minor gives the alcohol to another minor who drives negligently and kills someone, is the seller liable to the family of the deceased?

According to California law, the seller is NOT liable to the family of the deceased.  The seller escaped liability because it did not directly sell alcohol to the driver.  The court did not address the issue of the seller not catching the fake ID.
