Really good article in Slate magazine about communities opposing new liquor licenses in neighborhoods that already have a lot of bars and restaurants.
As the author Matthew Yglesias correctly puts it: Cities need to recognize that bars and restaurants are not the ugly stepchildren of the modern urban economy - they are its greatest strength. Similar businesses in the same neighborhood help each other out and contribute to the greater good of the economy.
